Your Rig is your Rig

How I Made My Bikepack Work for Me

When it comes to bikepacking, there’s no one-size-fits-all rig. For me, it's always been about personalization—figuring out what works for my bike and my lifestyle, rather than chasing the latest flash gear. I've learned over the years that your rig is your rig, which means embracing what you have and making it work uniquely

.

I'm only 5'2" (near Hobbit status!), so a lot of gear out there is designed with taller, larger bikepackers in mind. That meant I had to get a bit creative with how and where I attached my essentials. I opted for front cradles, a sturdy rack at the back, and some reliable dry bags.

Rather than splurging on the newest gadgets, I leaned on the gear I already trusted—tents, a cooking kit, and more—that’s been with me on countless adventures, from bikepacking to raft trips and even sea kayaking.

The secret? Borrow, steal, and trade tips with fellow bikepackers. I'm continually approaching some random bike packer I've sported to chew the fat

I've seen some folks load up their bikes like they’re about to launch a space shuttle, but honestly, sometimes less is more. Experiment, try out different setups, and see what feels right for you.

My rig isn’t perfect, but it's perfectly tailored to my needs—and that's all that matters.

Check out my video for a closer look at my rig. It's just how I do things, and I hope it inspires you to build your own setup that suits your adventures. After all, I think the real magic of bikepacking is found on the road, not in the gear store.
